Thiruvarur is famous for Sri Thiyagaraja temple and the annual chariot festival perfomed at the month of Chitrai (April/May). Thiruvarur was the birth place of three great Carnatic musicians Thiyagaraja, Muthuswami Dikshitar and Syama Shastri.
